She stood wide-eyed flat against the wall. It was pitch black and she couldn't see a thing, but she knew some... thing was in the room with her. There was that stinking smell that was so overwhelming, it couldn't be anything of this earth. Her ears twitched with the unnatural silence that pervaded between echoing heartbeats. She was definitely not alone.
The woman caught her breath as something slithered just past her foot. The air was stagnant with fear and it was getting hard to breath. The door, she knew was just several feet away, Or... it had been before the lights had flickered out. She wanted to run to it so desperately, but she couldn't turn her back to that, that thing. Walking backwards, she moved slowly, her steps cautious. She knew that if she lost her footing and fell in the darkness, she would be paralyzed in terror, unable to rise or cry or scream. Then, it happened again. Something wet and slimy just barely touched her foot, as if it was tasting her. Her tongue felt dry and heavy in her mouth, her spine began to course with horrified emotion.
Suddenly, she felt the wall in front of her. Her hand shot out, desperately searching for the handle. Her eyes still tried vainly to make out shapes in the shadows of the room that was not empty. The tension rose in her throat as she fumbled about the door frame. Then, her fingers encircled the knob, and fell slack. A choked gasp emanated from her mouth as her moon-struck eyes stared ahead of her. Two points of light had revealed themselves from the blackness. Two shining eyes without reflection, jet black pupils with yellow solid white irises. They came closer, swaying hypnotically, the only thing that could be seen. They came closer, closer drawing nearer and nearer to the woman. Something deep inside her told her to move, to tear herself out of the sudden lethargy that had gripped her, but she could not. Her eyes were fixed on the gaze of Talga and her hand fell to her side useless.
