Excor looked left, then he looked right. Scorch and Slint were still nowhere to be seen. He put his hands on his hips and shrugged off his hood so he could see better. Where could those boys have gotten off to? He was about to call out when he paused. He heard something, leaves moving, but there was no breeze. He let his heart beat once, then he whipped around, drawing his sword in the same motion and slashing at the air. His blade was deflected by claws and he was almost thrown off balance. "Furymane..." Excor spat. "I might have thought you would try to interfere." A muscled beast covered in grey fur stood upright, claws crossed in front of his face. "Interfere with what, human?" he roared. "I care naught for your plans, only that that which lives finds death on these grounds." His huge claws and hands ignited in a mysterious blue fire up to his elbows. "Die now petty human. I'll gut you with my claws and teeth!" Excor groaned, but assumed a fighting position. "Oh brother."

"Don't belittle me!!!" Furymane screamed, hurling himself towards Excor, blue flame trailing behind him. Excor dodged and let the beast claw at the wind. Furymane straightened and glared at Excor over his shoulder, yellow eyes shining with an intense glow. "No human should have been able to evade that attack. What are you?" "I'm a human," Excor raised his right arm and with it, a dozen cylinders of dirt rose into the air forming into spikes and hardening to a point. "I'm the human that will kill you!" He threw his arm forward and the spikes of Earth went hurtling towards the werewolf. Furymane only gave the barest indication of surprise before throwing up a shield of energy. It was enough to redirect most of the bolts off-course but the two that rammed into him knocked into him and threw him and onto his back. He was up in seconds but was clearly fazed. There was a gem that hung from a chain around his neck that was lit with an eerie red light. Excor circled the beast, sword drawn, pale metal flashing in the sun. He had a wolfish expression on his weather-beaten features.

Furymane eyed the gem around his neck as if considering whether or not to us its power. "You're not worth it," the beast spat, fingering the gem with one bony claw. Suddenly, before Excor could react Furymane had jumped into the air arching his back and raising one great fist. With a resounding crash, the beast slammed into the ground in a mighty punch that sent out a shock wave of blue energy, emanating from the point of impact. It knocked Excor off his feet. He landed on all fours, sword clenched tightly in one hand. When he stood up, the werewolf was a mere streak of grey fur disappearing into the nearby forest. "Blast!" Excor sheathed his sword and brushed off his hands. He was a ranger and he was protecting Scorch and Slint, two rambunctious boys from the South. If there was one werewolf, there could easily be more, and the boys were utterly unable to take on so dangerous a foe at the moment. "If they've gone and gotten themselves killed," He muttered. "Heya there Exe," A youth's voice called out. Excor spun around and saw nothing. "It's me," Excor heard a rustling in the trees above him.

(Excor is so hot) <3 <3 <3 x3
Excor whipped his big brown eyes to the tree. As he watched, Scorch and Slint slid down the trunk, both munching on some of the precious salt veal that he had bought for himself as a treat in the last village they had stopped at. "WHAT!?!" Excor glanced at the pouch he always wore at his side and discovered it missing. It was where he stored some of his most precious objects: notes from Elora his girlfriend, a gold locket from his mother before she had passed away... and most precious of all, HIS SALTED VEAL.
"Looking for this Exe?" Slint held up Excor's bag with a bemused smile.
Excor's eyes narrowed, eyebrow twitching. "Give. That. Back!" He said, voice dangerously low. "While I've been saving your lives against that werewolf, you've been eating my one and only indulgence on this entire God forsaken journey."
Scorch took the bag from his brother and tossed it to Excor, sniggering all the while. "You've got yourself a sweet woman, but you really should keep her letters somewhere safer." He glanced at Slint and they exchanged devilish grins. "I think you two went into all together too much detail."
"You perverted little rat!" Excor slung the pack back on his shoulder and cuffed each boy on the ear. "Next time you run off like that I'll tie you up and cover you in honey for the bears to find you."

It was a week after Excor and the boys had arrived at Trinnador. Kaylec, the boys' trainer had thought it would be a good idea for the boys to get some more training 'in the field' as he said. Excor seemed to think that was crap. He had just dragged the boys across half the Continent after all, you couldn't get more 'in the field' training than getting chased all the way by evil beasts, but Kaylec didn't care. He stretched out and propped his feet up on his desk at the Academy. Those bothersome boys were out of his hair, finally, and he had a moment's respite. Kaylec sighed deeply and took a sip from his canteen of ale. He wrinkled his nose and washed the liquid around in his mouth a bit before swallowing. "What is this? Pyugo's worst?" Nonetheless, he took another sip. He wasn't technically supposed to drink while in uniform, but then again, he had something to celebrate. For the moment at least, he was free. He raised the canteen to his lips, then felt a hand tap him on the shoulder. "AGHHH!" Kaylec spat up the ale and nearly fell out of his chair as he spun around and drunkenly half-drew his sword. He clattered to the ground in a pathetic mess and pounded the ground with his fist. "Blast Graffa!" The man who had surprised Kaylec was tall with brown hair cut short to regulation and a neatly trimmed beard, the prime example of an Isgardian Military man. He had a massive halberd strapped to his back that protruded a foot above his head. No wonder the top boards of all the doorframes at the academy were scratched up. "What do you-" "Kaylec!" Graffa interrupted. "What on earth were you thinking?" Kaylec crawled to his feet and shoved his sword back into its sheath. "What was I thinking before you came and blackened my wonderful mood? Well I was thinking about how fantastic it was to not have to deal with ignorant, immature twitbones for half a second, but I guess I was wrong. Such folk surround me constantly." Graffa either didn't recognize that he was being insulted or didn't care because he didn't blink an eye. "I asked you a question." His eyes narrowed. "What possessed you to make you think that it was okay to send the hope and future of the entire world out on their own in monster infested territory!" "Relaaaax," Kaylec picked up his canteen which had been knocked over during his fit of flailing. "I didn't send them out alone. Excor is with them!" Graffa glowered. "Why does that not relieve me?"
